Optics and photonics

The study line in optics and photonics focuses on understanding light propagation and interactions between light and matter including applications to the design and fabrication of photonic devices and systems. The applications are within optical communications, nanophotonic devices, sensing and biomedicine. The area covers theory and simulations, fabrication, and characterization. Topics include lasers, microstructured fibers, photonic crystals, quantum photonics, terahertz radiation, plasmonics, biosensing, and high-speed transmission.

To fulfil the requirements for the study line optics and photonics, a student must fulfil all requirements for the M.Sc. in Physics and Nanotechnology.

  • The master project should be within the field of optics and photonics.
  • At least 45 ECTS points should be from courses on the following list.

10112  Advanced quantum mechanics *

* = Basic course, can count as a general competences or technological specialization

# = Previously gave 10 ECTS.  If you followed it when it gave 10 points, they all count towards the study line.

Pre-approved thesis supervisors

IMPORTANT: Your supervisor does not need to be on this list.  If he/she is not, you just need to contact the programme coordinator for approval of your thesis subjec.
